How Nathaniel Ru’s Sweetgreen Earned a Good Reputation in the Food Industry

A good restaurant is one with healthy, local, organic and fresh foods. Sweetgreen, a food service company operating in 40 locations in the U.S., meets these credentials. According to the brand’s co-CEO and co-founder, Nathaniel Ru, Sweetgreen was created to stand for quality food service.

Sweetgreen came into existence as a result of a brainstorming session conducted by three Georgetown University classmates.

The three, Nathaniel Ru, Jonathan Neman, and Nicholas Jammet, shared a vision of creating a food service brand that is tech-oriented. After launching Sweetgreen, they ensured that 30 percent of the brand’s operations are carried out via a mobile application and a website.

Furthermore, the company’s corporate office is usually closed five times every year. This initiative allows all employees to work at the restaurants.

How the Co-founders Met

At campus, the three entrepreneurs faced several challenges when trying to access quality foodstuffs. This is because the restaurants that were around Georgetown University did not have healthy eating products.

The co-founders established their first eating joint in 2007 after they were done with their studies. The eating joint was called Sweetgreen. Over the last ten years, Sweetgreen has expanded its services to over 40 locations in six states of the US.

Nathaniel Ru is an entrepreneur and tech enthusiast known for his role in creating Sweetgreen. He acquired his undergraduate degree in finance from McDonough School of Business, which is affiliated with Georgetown University.

He enlisted the help of Nicholas Jammet and Jonathan Neman in setting up Sweetgreen’s first restaurant in Georgetown, GA.

Nathaniel, Nicholas, and Jonathan also collaborated on Sweetlife, which is a food and music-themed annual festival. The sweetlife festival was established after Sweetgreen’s restaurants were set up in six states in the US. Sweetlife has attracted over 20,000 flood and music enthusiasts across the country.

Just like Sweetgreen, the festival strives for a healthy lifestyle, nutrition, and sustainability. Attendees of the festival get to enjoy delicious cuisines prepared and sold in trucks by experienced chefs.
